Project The Tube focuses on passengers of the London Underground, also known as the Tube. The idea came about in the Winter when it started getting dark early, and I rediscovered my ‘street subjects’ down in the underground. The way people behave, the situations and incidents I capture on the Tube cannot be compared with those at street level. There is feeling of rush, lateness and fatigue in the tunnels. People are not as kind as they were just few minutes ago, before they went down to the Tube. Coming across the gentleman who will give up his seat to an elderly person is quite rare. Savoir-vivre is suddenly gone. It must be the matter of the confined space. In such environment passengers make interesting subjects for photography as they go through states of silent contemplation, meditation, aversion and self-consciousness for long and fleeting strings of minutes.
